Hi, I'm Paul. I run MTD Signpost on my own, as an independent UK sole trader.
Why I built it
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax changes how a lot of sole traders and landlords deal with HMRC. HMRC's guidance is good, but it's spread across lots of GOV.UK pages and it keeps changing. HMRC says around 1,077,000 more people join from April 2027 (HMRC, 5 October 2026).
So I've put the parts most people need in one place, in plain English, with a free checker for your start date and a software chooser that shows free options first.
What I am, and what I'm not
- I'm not an accountant, a tax adviser or a regulated professional. Nothing here is tax advice.
- I'm not HMRC, and this site isn't connected to HMRC or any government body.
- I read the GOV.UK guidance, write it up, and link every fact to its source so you can check it yourself. How I check facts.
How the site is paid for
The site is free to use. At the moment none of the links on this site earn anything. If that changes, paid links will be marked "Ad" right next to the link. The checker never changes based on money, and the chooser's order follows the rules it shows you. How we're paid.
